此曲最早是出在歌者之一Geoff Stephens所的英---The New Vaudeville Band於1966推出的《Winshester Cathedral》中，果如歌名「hush」，悄悄的什。接著由美俄亥俄州的少年Gary and the Hornets歌名改成《A Kind of Hush》推出，反而得一些地性的成功。1967，英Herman's Hermits的版本，不打入了美排行榜 ( #4 )，也成的曲。有趣的是，The New Vaudeville Band的原唱版本，在澳洲及南非也跟著水船高。






1976，The Carpenters ( 木匠兄妹合唱 ) 此曲重新曲，同歌名改《There's a Kind of Hush ( All Over The World )》，以之作同名的主打歌。此曲在告示牌榜得第12名，在易 ( easy listening ) 榜是他第13首的冠曲。使成不差，此曲示了Carpenters的始下滑。他1969首的主打歌《Ticket to Ride》之後，各主打歌未落在5名之外。此的名次第33，同地自首之後，也未跌落在20名之外。此曲也成Carpenters最後一首在榜前20名的歌曲，一直到1981的《Touch Me When We're Dancing》才又重回前20。

Karen Carpenter於1983死於食症 ( 32 )。哥哥Richard Carpenter在2004所行的唱片合《Gold》的封套文字中提到此曲：是他和妹妹都很喜的一首60年代的歌曲，然他的版本也成了曲，但事後回看，他未唱首歌。原因(1)原唱Herman's Hermits的呈已非常的完美。(2)他老歌的部份，在1973年的《Now & Then》的第二面 ( 此面特色即混合了多首的翻唱老歌 ) 之後就束了。(3)在此首及其他首歌，不是很新使用的合成器 (synthesizer)。
