Last week, Elastic announced they will change their software licensing strategy, and will not release new versions of Elasticsearch and Kibana under the Apache License, Version 2.0 (ALv2). Instead, new versions of the software will be offered under the Elastic License (which limits how it can be used) or the Server Side Public License (which has requirements that make it unacceptable to many in the open source community). This means that Elasticsearch and Kibana will no longer be open source software. In order to ensure open source versions of both packages remain available and well supported, including in our own offerings, we are announcing today that AWS will step up to create and maintain a ALv2-licensed fork of open source Elasticsearch and Kibana. 我不喜欢 MongoDB 的原因之一就是它的开源协议 SSPL，导致我无法直接在 ArchLinux 上安装。而当时 AWS 也是立即开发了数据兼容的 DocumentDB 。

 | 2 seki Jan 22, 2021 从另外一个角度来看，开发者也是要吃饭的 以前有 GPL 可以强制开源，换到云服务上就没有办法做控制，这也是事实 商业公司不贡献自己的代码，又能凭借自己的台，压制开源开发者用来赚点辛苦钱的公司，这对于开源项目来讲不一定是好事 很多开源产品就是因为开发者没法用爱发电，募不够钱，也没有办法靠开公司卖服务赚到钱，慢慢地就消亡了 |

 | 7 jim9606 Jan 23, 2021 开源也是怕白嫖的。 本身小公司在 Infrastructure 领域搞开源商业模式就是有点危险的事，因为大公司很容易白嫖这一套东西同时用更强大的人力和市场资源打败你的商业支持服务，甚至喧宾夺主带偏你的开发路线。 Docker 也是吃了这个亏，Google 的 K8s 架空了 docker 之后就抛弃了它。 |
